Happy Easter - time to be thinking about Christmas?

It’s approaching Easter, so the last thing on most people’s mind will be Christmas. But actually, now is exactly the time to be thinking about how to meet the costs of Christmas when you’ve still got time to plan over the course of the year.

You may recall how in 2006 the Farepak Hamper scheme collapsed leaving many people in difficulty around Christmas. Since then the OFT has been running a campaign to help people understand the advantages and disadvantages of different ways of saving for Christmas or other significant events.

The campaign – called 'Save Xmas' – aims to help people understand and choose appropriate ways of saving over the course of the year, from Credit Union accounts to Savings Stamps schemes. To order a free guide to these call 0800 389 3158 or visit www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
